On Dec. 15th at the Community Center the Union County Sheriff Office was represented by 5 officers to launch the Neighborhood Watch Program.

We were given very good information as to what goes into setting up a Neighborhood Watch Program. How to establish a phone tree list so neighbors can contact each other to alert them to a strange vehicle or person in the area. It was suggested to record the serial numbers for your valuable electronics and other items, so if stolen and recovered they can be returned to the owner. Other ways to keep your home safe were discussed, such as keeping trees or shrubs from obscuring vision from inside the home, timers for lights to turn on and off automatically when no one is in the home, using motion lights and dusk to dawn lights to discourage break-ins. Neighborhood Watch stickers were given out and information about larger signs. Just having the signs and stickers visible can be a deterrent. For information about Neighborhood Watch, contact the Sheriff Office, 706-439-6066
Some of the members of the of the Union County Sheriff Explorer Program were also there. For more information about the Explorer Program contact the Sheriff Office. 706-439-6066
